What you will need for this project is a 5mm hook (US H) and some variegated yarn is preferred for this stitch just because it helps the stitch show better, but any worst weight 10 ply yarn can be used for this project.
Ch = Chain
DC = Double Crochet
FPDC = Front Post Double Crochet
BPDC = Back Post Double Crochet
St(s) = Stitch(es)
sl st = Slip Stitch
Start by chaining 5, and sl st in the beginning ch to form a ring.
Ch 2, Do 2 dc's and ch 2 (repeat 3 dc's, ch 2) 3 more times for 4 sections and 16 sts.
Ch 1 and pull up some yarn (or ch 2) and FPDC into the first dc post to the left.
And do the same in the following 2 post. (we will be working with sets of 3 everytime we can)
For the corner (and you will always do this in every corner of this project) Dc 2, ch 1, Dc 2.
Continue working the front post's and corners til you reach the end of this round. Sl st into beginning st of the round.
Example of a FPDC
Ch 1 and pull up your yarn a little (or chain 2) (this does not count as a stitch)
(Now where you have done FPDC's from the previous round, you need to doBPDC's. Remember we are working in sets of 3 here.)
Do 3 BPDC's, do 2 FPDC's, in corner do DC 2, ch 1, DC 2, ( now whatever you do on the front part of the circle, do the same on the other side. (Stay consistent
and mimic corner stitches on both sides) So we do 2 FPDC's on other side ofcorner then 3 BPDC's. Repeat doing this for the remainder of this round. Sl st into top of beginning st to end round.
Example of a BPDC
ch 1 and pull up yarn (does not count as a stitch) and FPDC the next 3 post.
Then using one of the corner sts from the previous round do 3 BPDC's into thenext 3 post, Do 1 FPDC in the last st before the corner. Do the corner as always
DC 2, ch 1, DC 2. then do 1 FPDC, next 3 do BPDC, then do 3 FPDC, then do 3BPDC's, then make single stitch near corner a FPDC, do corner as normal.
Repeat for remainder or round. Sl st into beginning st to end round.
Ch 1 pull up yarn.
Again repeat pattern, where you see BP, do FP, and where you see FP do BP.
For this round you will do 3 BPDC in the following 3 stitches, then do 3 FPDC'sin the next 3 post, Do 3 BPDC and then do corner as usual, DC 2, ch 1, DC 2.Continue for rest of round and cut yarn.
Note: You could do more rows, but the bigger it gets it started to form a 4 pointed star, which is cute and can still be made into a blanket, just not the best pattern if you wanted to make it for a largebed. If you want to make one for your bed, I sudjest stopping after the fifth row. Good luck!
